Hip Pain Treatment in Dallas
Hip pain in active adults shows up in a lot of different ways — a pinch when you squat, a deep ache after sitting, recurring tightness no amount of stretching seems to fix. At RXN Performance in Uptown Dallas, we work with the full range of hip issues active adults run into.
What types of hip pain do we treat?
- FAI and labral issues — pinching at the front of the hip, often worse in deep squats or end-range positions.
- Glute medius weakness — outer hip and side-of-knee pain, often paired with a Trendelenburg-style gait pattern.
- Hip flexor tightness and overuse — front-of-hip pain, common in runners, lifters, and people who sit a lot.
- Post-surgical hip returns — once cleared by your surgeon, we help rebuild strength, mobility, and confidence in the joint.
- Piriformis syndrome — deep glute pain, sometimes radiating down the leg in a sciatica-like pattern.
- General hip tightness from sitting — the slow-burn restriction that builds up over years of desk work.
Why is your hip hurting?
The hip is the central joint for most lower-body movement. When it is tight, weak, or both, every other joint compensates. Knee pain, low back pain, and ankle issues are very often hip problems wearing a different costume. Until the hip itself moves and loads well, the surrounding pain points keep coming back.
How do we treat hip pain at RXN?
Treatment combines manual therapy with progressive loading, built around a thorough assessment of how your hip actually moves under load. A typical plan includes:
- Comprehensive movement screen to find what is restricted, what is weak, and what is overworking.
- Manual therapy including adjustments, soft-tissue release of the hip flexors, glutes, deep external rotators, and surrounding tissues.
- Joint mobilization to restore range of motion when the joint capsule itself is restricted.
- Targeted strengthening of the glute medius, deep stabilizers, and posterior chain to address the actual movement deficit.
- Loading progression so your hip can handle real-world demands without flaring up.
How long does hip pain treatment take?
Like other lower-body joints, full resolution typically takes 3 to 5 months of consistent work. Most patients feel meaningful improvement in the first 4-6 visits. Hips often take longer to fully retrain than smaller joints because the surrounding musculature is large and slower to adapt. We will give you a realistic timeline at your discovery visit.
Do I need imaging or an MRI?
Usually no. Most hip pain responds well to conservative care without imaging. We recommend MRI in specific scenarios: progressive neurological symptoms, suspected labral tear that is not responding to conservative care, or any red-flag presentation. If we think you need imaging, we will tell you and coordinate with a physician.
When does hip pain need surgery?
Most hip pain does not. Conservative care resolves the majority of cases including many labral issues. Surgery is appropriate for specific scenarios — confirmed structural problems that have failed conservative care, severe arthritis limiting function, certain acute injuries. If we think you need surgical evaluation, we will refer you to a qualified orthopedic surgeon.
